Bissell Separator Assembly ...

Product details

Part 1609898 is the separator assembly for the Bissell 1797, the component inside the dirt cup that spins debris out of the airstream before it reaches the filter. On a bagless upright, this is what keeps the machine from clogging within the first pass over a carpet full of fine dust.

The clue that this part has failed, rather than the filter or the cup, is suction that stays weak right after you empty and rinse everything you can see. A cracked separator lets fine dust bypass the cyclone and pack straight into the filter media, and no amount of emptying the cup fixes that until the separator itself is replaced.

Match the assembly to your machine before ordering. Bissell has used more than one separator design across its upright and canister lines, and a part built for a different chassis will not seat correctly even when it looks close.

Installation is usually a simple twist-and-lift job once the dirt cup is out of the machine, since separators are meant to be a serviceable wear part rather than a permanent fixture. Inspect the mesh and the seating edge for cracks or gaps before reinstalling the cup, since even a small gap around the separator will let unfiltered air bypass it the same way a full crack does.
