    Part B481-0008 is the release button for the air outlet grid on the Simplicity Scout and Scout Plus canister vacuums. Pressing it unlatches the grid so the exhaust filter behind it can be reached for cleaning or replacement.

    It is a small moulded catch and, like most latch buttons, it fails by snapping its spring arm rather than by wearing out. Once that happens the grid either will not release at all or will not stay shut, and the exhaust filter behind it stops sitting square against its seal. Replacing the button restores a positive click without needing to touch the grid itself.
