    Part C481-0012 is the molded housing that carries the retracting cord mechanism and the power switch inside Simplicity Scout and Scout Plus canister vacuums. Its job is structural: it locates the reel so the cord winds in straight, and it holds the switch square to the opening in the body shell.

    Housings crack when a canister is dropped on a stair nose or when the cord is repeatedly yanked at a sharp angle, and a reel that has gone loose in its mount is what turns a smooth rewind into a jam halfway through the cord.
