Longer connecting rod for the carpet and bare floor switch on Symmetry uprights, ordered as B017-4300C. The rod ties the floor selector to the mechanism in the nozzle, so a bent, snapped or wrong-length rod leaves the machine locked on one setting no matter what the selector says.

This is the long version of the rod. Measure the one you pulled out rather than guessing: the short rod will not reach and the long rod will bind.
