Black spring assist axle shaft, part B470-2600, for the MV-platform uprights sold as Simplicity Synchrony and Riccar Brilliance. The shaft anchors the spring-assist linkage that offsets the weight of the vacuum body during tilt, keeping the handle light in the hand and the nozzle planted on the carpet.
A worn or bent shaft usually announces itself as a tilt that binds partway through its arc, or a body that no longer sits level once reclined. It is an inexpensive mechanical fix on a machine that is otherwise cleaning well.
