Hoover Windtunnel/spirit Up...

Product details
Part 440013114 replaces the rocker on/off switch used across Hoover's WindTunnel and Spirit upright line. Mounted in the handle or body housing, it makes or breaks the circuit to the motor every time someone works it.
Coverage on this switch is unusually wide: the compatibility list spans dozens of Hoover S-series models from the S3205 through the S3627, a long run of U-series uprights from the U5330900 through the U6660900, and the Dirt Devil 086500, 086505 and 086520. The list is made up of specific models rather than a blanket range, so confirm your exact model number appears on it before ordering instead of assuming a nearby number is close enough.
A failing switch shows itself in one of three ways: total silence when you press it, power that drops mid-pass and comes back once you jiggle the rocker, or a rocker that has lost its snap and just feels mushy under your thumb. Every cycle stresses the metal contacts inside a little more, and a machine parked on a shelf for a few years accumulates that wear from occasional use alone, not heavy duty. Arcing across the contacts each time they open pits the metal a little further, which is why an old switch often works when pressed firmly yet drops out on its own once the machine starts vibrating in use.

Cut power at the wall before opening the housing, and pass the repair to a technician if working around line-voltage wiring is outside your comfort zone.
