This is the black TC-style upper wand handle cradle for Riccar M1200, R20 and S20 upright vacuums, part B484-8814. Mounted near the top of the wand, it is the small clip-in bracket the handle seats into whenever the hose is put away, so the top end stays locked in place instead of swinging free against the machine body. The cradle itself is separate from the handle and the wand tube, just the molded holder that captures them.
Like most small plastic brackets on a vacuum, this cradle is a wear part rather than a defect waiting to happen. Every time the machine is parked, the retaining lip has to flex and catch the handle, and that repeated motion is what eventually cracks the plastic or rounds the lip down until it stops clicking shut. Once the lip gives out, the wand can come free unexpectedly, whether the machine is being carried, tipped back, or left standing on a staircase.
