Product details
The VacuMaid PF248 joins central vacuum pipe at the standard 2 inch size with a clamp-style connection instead of solvent cement, which changes what the joint can do: it can be opened again. Nearly every joint in a central vacuum run gets glued, permanently, and that is the right call for connections that never need to come apart. The handful that do need to open are where a clamp coupler earns its place.
VacuMaid lists the PF248 among its installation accessories, and dealer references describe it connecting at the intake of power units sold under the VacuMaid, AstroVac, Valet and Imperium names, fastened in place with a screw. That is the joint most likely to need opening across the life of a system: the power unit comes down for motor service, filter work, or outright replacement, and a clamped connection lets the pipe run stay put on the wall while the unit moves.
It serves the same way at any serviceable point an installer wants to build in, a dirt canister connection or a stretch of run likely to be extended when a garage or addition gets its own inlet later. Loosen the fastener, pull the pipe free, and remake the connection as many times as the job requires, something a cemented joint never allows once cured.
Snug the fastener down evenly and confirm the pipe is seated fully before calling the joint finished. A partly seated clamp joint leaks air rather than dirt, and that kind of leak shows up as weaker suction at the far end of the house rather than anything visible at the fitting itself.
