The grey button release handle for the Bissell 2598 Compact upright, part 1621001. It is the release you press to drop the machine out of its upright lock and recline it for cleaning, and it is what holds the machine standing when you let go.
It gets pressed every single time the vacuum is used, and it is nearly always a foot or thumb doing it hard. The plastic fatigues at the pivot, the return spring perch breaks, or the button jams half-depressed — after which the machine either will not recline at all or will not stay upright when parked.
This replacement fits the Bissell 2598 Compact and mounts in the original position. While the handle is apart, check the return spring and the pivot bore for wear, since a tired spring will make a new button feel wrong from the first press.
