Product details

Yellow foam filter, Bissell part 1610289, for the 18082, 2598, 2612 and 2613. Foam sits between the dirt cup and the motor and catches the fine dust the cyclone does not manage to throw out, which is exactly the dust that would otherwise settle on the motor windings.

Foam ages two ways. It clogs, which you feel as suction that fades within a minute of starting and comes back after the machine has stood idle. Or it perishes: the surface goes powdery and the edges start crumbling, at which point it is passing dust straight through however clean it looks.

If yours is grey right through, thin at the corners, or breaking up when you handle it, replace it rather than washing it again. Make sure the seat is dry and the filter is fully home before the cup goes back on, or the air will simply bypass it.
