This is the Clearview II brush roll, Bissell part 18-3402-08, the agitator that runs the full width of the nozzle and does the work suction alone cannot. It fits the Clearview II uprights sold under models 3576 and 6594, and the same roll covers the Bissell 3910, 3950, 3990, 6390, 6393, 75B21, 82G71, 82G72 and 82G7H.
Bristles are the wear item. They bend, splay and shorten until they no longer reach into the pile, and the machine starts leaving fibres and pet hair behind on a carpet it used to clear in one pass. Grinding or squealing points instead at the end bearings, which also live on the roll.
Cutting away wound hair and thread at each end regularly buys a roll considerably more life. When trimmed bristles still sit visibly shorter than the row at the ends, the roll itself is finished.
