Product details

The upper body is the metal shell that everything else on a PU3650 power unit bolts to: the motor sits inside it, the lid seals against its rim, and the exhaust and filter housing mount to its frame. It is the structural core of the unit, not just a cover.

Fits the Electrolux PU3650 power unit. Because the shell has to hold a vacuum seal at the lid and support the motor's weight and vibration over years of running, a dent that distorts the rim, a crack anywhere in the metal, or corrosion at a mounting point compromises the whole unit even if the motor itself is fine.

  • Fits: Electrolux PU3650 power unit
  • Type: Metal upper body / cylinder, structural shell
  • Function: Houses the motor, seals to the lid, anchors the exhaust assembly
  • Replace when: Dented rim, cracked shell, or corroded mounting points

The upper body carries real weight once the motor is mounted inside it, so support it from underneath rather than by the rim alone when lifting it into place. The same thin metal that flexes enough to install easily can also take a permanent set if it is lifted or set down awkwardly with the motor already installed.

A rebuild that skips the shell and only replaces internal parts will not hold vacuum if the rim itself is out of round, so check the shell's seal surface before assuming a leak is coming from a gasket or the lid latch. Run a hand along the rim before final assembly and feel for any high or low spot, since a rim that looks straight to the eye can still have a subtle low point that keeps the lid gasket from compressing evenly.
