Product details
Part 54256A1 pairs a ball bearing with its matched seat for the Eureka and Sanitaire VG II 12 inch brush roll, sold as the bearing service kit on its own rather than bundled with a whole roller.
A bearing running dry gives warning well before it locks up solid: a whine or rumble from the nozzle that climbs and falls as belt speed changes, resistance when the roller is flicked by hand instead of spinning freely, and side-to-side shaft play that was not there when the roll was newer. Ignored long enough, the bearing seizes outright, the belt slips against a roller that will not spin and burns against it, and the shaft itself gets chewed at the point where the bearing used to sit.
Commercial units put this bearing under the hardest use, since heat and grit both accumulate with hours logged rather than with calendar age, and a rumble that rises and falls with belt speed is a more dependable early sign of trouble than a steady, unchanging noise.
Check play at the shaft before ordering a full roller. If the bristles still look serviceable and the only issue is noise or wobble at the ends, this bearing and seat kit alone usually solves it without the added cost of a complete roll.
