Product details
Spring for the handle release lever on Eureka and Sanitaire upright vacuums, part 53097, sold five to a pack. Pressing the release pedal compresses this spring, and the spring is what pulls the pedal back out so the handle can catch again once you let go.
A weak or broken spring means the pedal stays down after you press it, so the handle will not lock upright and keeps sliding back toward the floor while you push the machine. It's a small part, but it is the one thing standing between a comfortable upright cleaning position and fighting the handle on every pass.
Listed fitment spans a long run of Eureka and Sanitaire models, including the 1934A, 1950A, 2118B, 2124A and 2134A; the C2094B, C2094D, C2094FB and C2094GW; the C2132A, C2132B and C2133A; the C2194A and C2194B; the C4046B, C4046E and C4047A; the HE4046A; the S635A and S645A; the SC684F, SC688 and SC689A; the SC877D, SC877E, SC886F, SC886G, SC887D, SC887E, SC888G, SC888M, SC888N, SC889A and SC899G; and the SL635B.
Test the release action a few times by hand after fitting the new spring, before closing the machine back up, so a weak return shows itself on the bench rather than after the pedal is buried under the housing again.
