On the ESSENTIAL G1 and ESSENTIAL G2 the handle holds its angle against a moulded catch rather than a friction joint, which is why a worn catch announces itself immediately: the handle simply will not stay upright. SEBO 5098HG is the light gray replacement for that component, supplied as the single part rather than as part of a handle assembly.
Two things happen to it with age. The engagement faces round off from thousands of raise-and-lower cycles, and the body can crack around its mounting point after a knock or a machine that has been dragged by the handle. The result either way is a handle that drops under its own weight, sits loose in the hand, or has to be held in position while the floor is being cleaned. There is no adjustment that recovers a rounded catch, so replacement is the fix, and it is cheap enough to do at the first sign of slop rather than living with it.
