This genuine OEM Kenmore overload protector (part 31150) is the circuit breaker that guards the motor on the Kenmore 31150, BU1005, and BU1018. It automatically cuts power when the motor runs too hot, then allows a reset once things cool.
If your vacuum shuts off during use and runs again after cooling, the protector is doing its job. But when it fails and the machine will not restart even after a rest, this replacement is what restores that safety cutoff. Always check for clogged filters or a full bag as the underlying cause of overheating.
