Genuine Kirby nozzle bumper for the Generation 4, part 140493. The same bumper is also listed for the Ultimate G.
It runs across the front of the cleaning head and takes every impact the machine makes as it is worked into corners and along walls. That is a hard life for a molded strip: it hardens with age, splits at the corners where it stretches around the nozzle, and finally works loose. A machine without one puts bare plastic against your baseboards and furniture legs, and the nozzle itself starts to chip.
Replacing it is a couple of minutes' work with no tools and no adjustment afterwards. Check your model plate before ordering, because Kirby's nozzle profile changed between generations and a bumper from a neighboring model will not sit correctly even though it looks close.
