Part 101396A is the Kirby motor assembly for the Generation series machines, from the Generation 3 through to the Ultimate G. It drives both the fan and the belt-driven brush roll, so when it fails the machine stops cleaning in every sense at once.
Expect the familiar warnings first: a hot electrical smell after a short run, a whine or grinding that was not there last month, or a motor that only runs when the handle is moved. If suction has faded while the fan and belt are intact, the motor is the next thing to test.
It fits the Kirby Generation 3, G4, G5, G Six and Ultimate G. One important exception: for the Diamond Edition, order part 101303G instead of this assembly. Motor work on a Kirby is best handed to someone comfortable with the wiring and with refitting the fan.
