The spring thread is where these housings wear. Once it no longer pulls the fan down snug, the fan shifts under load and air leaks past the joint, so pickup drops even though the motor still runs at full speed. A knocking or rattling note from the machine is often the first clue, showing up before the loss of suction becomes obvious on its own. A crack in the housing itself produces an identical leak, just a steady one instead of one that only shows up under load.

Because the fan is not included, thread the existing fan onto the replacement housing and confirm it draws down tight before closing the machine back up.
