ProTeam Sound Muffler - Coach Vacuum / Super Coach

Part 100597 damps motor exhaust noise inside ProTeam's CoachVac, MegaVac, and Super CoachVac backpacks, three machines engineered so a crew can clean occupied offices and lobbies during business hours without the noise itself becoming a complaint. The muffler is a big part of how that quiet running actually happens.

The usual reason to replace it is that the machine has gotten louder without anyone touching the motor. Mufflers crumble with heat cycling over time, or dust loads into the material until it restricts the exhaust path, and either way the motor ends up working harder while making more noise doing it. Stand near a tired unit partway through its shift and then near a fresh one of the same model; the gap in volume is not subtle.

Restricted exhaust does more than raise the volume. A motor that has to push air out through a muffler partially blocked with dust also runs warmer and works harder for the same suction at the floor, so a machine overdue for a muffler swap is often quietly costing motor life on top of the noise it is generating.

It lives out of sight inside the housing, which makes it an easy part to overlook during a routine motor or filter service. Worth checking any time the machine is already open, since reassembling around a degraded muffler undoes the quiet running these models are chosen for in the first place.
