Handle-mounted carpet and bare floor switch controlling the nozzle motor on MV and PV series tandem air uprights from Riccar and Simplicity. Part A328-1300 is the switch that rides in the handle — the one an operator flicks when moving off carpet onto a hard floor so the agitator stops being driven.

A switch in this position sees thousands of cycles and is a common failure on a machine that is otherwise sound: suction is normal, but the floor setting no longer takes effect or the nozzle motor refuses to shut down.
