Squealing from a power head almost always starts at one end of the brush roller rather than in the middle. The left-hand bearing block for the SEBO ET-1 and ET-2 nozzles is part 2314DG, finished in dark grey. It carries one end of the agitator and is sold on its own, so a single worn end can be dealt with without buying a pair.

It cradles the left journal of the roller and holds it turning true against the load of a carpet pushing back. Once the bore has worn oval the roller drags on that side, the drive works harder to keep it moving, and agitation falls away across the full width of the head rather than just at the worn end.

Diagnosis is a two-minute job with the machine unplugged and the nozzle turned over. Take hold of the roller at the left end and try to lift it: a healthy block gives nothing, a worn one lets the roller move in its seat. Spinning the roller by hand tells the same story — a rough or notchy feel from that end, or a roller that stops abruptly rather than coasting, points straight at the block.

Fitting is quick once the roller is out. Transfer the block, clear the wound-on hair from the shaft end while it is exposed, and confirm the roller spins freely in the new block before the nozzle goes back together. A roller that binds on the bench will bind on carpet.

Servicing both ends at once saves a second teardown later, and it is worth checking the belt while everything is open, since a roller that has been running out of line rarely leaves the belt untouched.
