Left and right supports are not the same molding, so the side matters when ordering. Part 5177 is specifically the left-hand swivel neck support for the AUTOMATIC X1 and AUTOMATIC X2. It forms one half of the trunnion the neck rotates in, tying the upper body of the machine down to the power head and taking its share of every twist the handle is given.
These supports fail at the boss around the pivot, and they fail slowly. First there is a slight diagonal wobble in the handle, then the machine starts wanting to wander off line as it is pushed, and eventually the crack opens far enough that the neck sits visibly proud on that side. Because both supports carry the same load and are the same age, it is worth checking the opposite side while the machine is apart rather than doing the same job twice a few months later.
