Spring tension is what makes a brush roller lock stay locked, and 52033ER supplies both halves of that mechanism: the right-hand release ring in light gray together with its spring. When the spring weakens or the ring wears at its detent, the roller either refuses to come free or, worse, does not stay put once it is back in. The first is an irritation on a machine designed for tool-free roller removal. Work on the roller mechanism with the vacuum unplugged, and pull the banded hair off the roller ends before the new ring goes on, since that build-up is usually what killed the old one. The ring is handed, so the left-hand end of the head takes a different part and this one will not substitute for it.
