Two separate moldings stack up at the bag door: the sprung catch that does the latching, and the trim cap that sits over it. Part 5707DB is the cap, in dark blue, for the AUTOMATIC X4 and the AUTOMATIC X5 upright.
A thumb lands squarely on this cap several times a week, so it ages cosmetically long before anything beneath it does. Scuffing, a chalky polished patch in the middle of the pressed face, and a split running in from one edge are all routine after a few years of daily use. The cap can also work out of its seat and vanish, leaving the release below it open to dust and to knocks. None of that stops the vacuum working, but it does take the crispness out of the press and it looks tired next to the rest of the trim.
