Style U flat belts, sold two to a pack under part 66120, fit the AS-series upright platform shared by Eureka and Sanitaire. This is the belt that carries drive from the motor shaft over to the brush roll.
Being a flat belt rather than a geared one, this part tends to slip long before it actually snaps. Under load on carpet, a stretched belt loses its grip against the pulley, the roller turns slower than the motor is driving it, and cleaning performance quietly declines while the vacuum itself keeps sounding perfectly normal. That quiet decline is exactly why a worn belt on these machines so often goes unnoticed until it fails outright.
Once it does reach that point, the signs become obvious rather than subtle: a hot rubber smell near the base, a fine dusting of black material collecting along the belt path inside the housing, or a roller that refuses to spin even when pushed by hand.
Style U covers the AS1000A, AS1001A, AS1002A, AS1004A and AS1004A1, AS1008AX, AS1041A, AS1049A, AS1050A, AS1051A and AS1053AX, and the AS5203A, AS5203A1 and AS5203A2, whether the machine is badged Eureka or Sanitaire, since both brands shared this platform. On most of these models the belt is accessed from the bottom plate with the machine tipped back, making the swap a fairly quick job.
