Product details

Part 71478 is the wheel axle for a range of Eureka and Sanitaire uprights, the shaft a wheel rides on rather than the wheel itself.

A worn axle lets the wheels sit off-angle, and the machine starts pulling to one side or dragging at a corner of the nozzle instead of tracking straight. On commercial machines the axle and its bushings tend to wear out around the same time, since both carry the same load.

It is listed for the 2961AVZ, 2991AVZ, 2993AV and 2999AVZ; the 4700A, 4701AZ, 4702A, 4712AZ and 4750A; the C5712A and C5712A1; and the SC5713B, SC5713D, SC5745B, SC5815E, SC5845B and SC5845D, under both Eureka and Sanitaire badging.

  • Part: 71478, wheel axle
  • Function: shaft the wheel turns on
  • Replace when: the machine drags to one side or a wheel sits at a visible angle
  • Tip: check the wheel bushings at the same time since they carry the same wear

Pull the wheel off to inspect the axle directly if you are not sure it needs replacing: a sound axle is straight along its full length and the wheel spins freely on it, while a worn one shows visible wobble or a flat-worn patch where the bushing has been riding under load. Roll the machine across a hard floor before and after the swap as a simple check on whether the axle was the cause of the drag.
