Three machines share this one small moulding. Part 5712WE is the white exhaust filter catch listed for the SEBO AUTOMATIC X4, the AUTOMATIC X4 Boost and the AUTOMATIC X5, drawn at item 101 of the AUTOMATIC X4/X5 exploded view. It is the sprung latch at the rear of the body that pulls the exhaust filter cover tight against its seat.
Everything about the failure is gradual. The engagement lip is worked by hand at every filter service, so it wears flat rather than snapping outright, and the cover starts needing an extra shove to stay put before it stops holding at all. Once it is no longer biting, the panel gaps along one edge, chatters at speed and stops pressing the exhaust filter down into its recess the way it should. White plastic gives an extra clue that the rest of the machine does not: a catch that has yellowed at the hook, or picked up a bright scuff where it has been rubbing, has usually done its working life. The replacement seats in the original position, and the check is simply that the cover clicks and sits flush all round.
