Part GCOV-A458VBFB is the filter cover for the Sharp EC-TU4707 upright, the panel that closes over the filter compartment and holds the filter against its seat.

Covers take a beating because they are opened and closed at every filter change, and the latch is usually what goes first. Once it stops holding, the cover sits proud of the body and air takes the easy route around the filter instead of through it. The symptoms read like a filter problem: dust on the exhaust side, a smell when the machine runs, less pickup than the motor should be giving. Replacing the filter alone does not fix any of it, because the air is bypassing whatever you put in there.

A cover that seals puts the airflow back on its proper path. While it is off, look hard at the filter itself, since a machine that has been bypassing has been running dirty for a while.
