Part 174581 is the handle fork back for the Kirby Heritage I, the 1HD. It is the rear section of the fork assembly that joins the handle to the body of the machine.
The fork carries every push, pull and twist you put into a Kirby, and the back half takes its share of that. Age does the rest. The plastic hardens, hairline cracks open around the fixings, and eventually there is play in the handle. You feel it before you see it: the handle moves independently of the body for a moment when you change direction, and the machine starts to feel loose to steer.
Fitting the correct part restores the joint properly, which no amount of tightening a cracked one will do. This is the Heritage I part; confirm your machine is a 1HD before ordering, since the fork parts differ across the Heritage range.
