Small part, specific job. This spring clip retains the belt lifter assembly on the Kirby Tradition and Tradition 3CB, and it is Kirby part 144479A.
The clip provides the light tension that keeps the lifter components seated against each other. Once it loses its spring, works loose or breaks, the lever develops slop and the mechanism stops moving through a defined path, so the belt gets picked up inconsistently or the lifter rattles as you vacuum. Because the clip is cheap and the symptom feels like a bigger failure, it often gets overlooked in favor of replacing the whole lifter.
Seat the new clip fully so it holds under tension rather than sitting proud, and check that the lever returns cleanly on its own before putting the machine back into service. Tradition family fitment only.
