Part R1415 is the armature gasket inside the motor of a Rainbow D3. It seals around the armature so the air the fans move stays in the fan stages instead of finding a shortcut around them.
Gaskets of this age harden, shrink and take a permanent set after years of heat cycling. The leak that follows is small and never obvious: suction falls off gradually, the motor draws more current to do the same work, and it runs hotter for the trouble. Because nothing actually sounds wrong, the usual conclusion is simply that the machine is getting old.
There is no way to fit this without the motor apart, so it belongs on the list of things to renew during a motor service rather than as a job undertaken on its own.
