Product details
The lower shell gasket, part R1795, seals the joint between the lower shell and the motor section of a Rainbow D3. On a machine that pulls its air through a water bath, that joint is what separates the wet half from the dry half.
A gasket that has hardened lets the seal go in two directions at once. Air leaks in, so the pull through the water basin weakens and the machine stops picking up the way it used to. Water can also find its way out, showing up as damp on the outside of the shell or a puddle where the machine has been standing - which is usually the symptom that gets someone's attention first.
Seat it evenly right round its groove before closing the shell. A gasket pinched at one point seals nowhere.
