Product details

Tip the handle back on an AUTOMATIC X7 and the machine changes what it is doing. The component that reports that movement is the reed switch, part 52103, drawn at position 117 of SEBO's combined AUTOMATIC X7/X8 parts diagram and labelled there as the reed switch for the swivel neck support. It is the same switch on the AUTOMATIC X8.

A reed switch closes its contacts when a magnet comes near and lets them open again when the magnet moves away, which is how SEBO reads handle position across a joint that pivots all day without running a mechanical linkage through it. Nothing about that is serviceable, so when the contacts tire the switch either sticks closed, stops making at all, or turns intermittent. The symptoms read far worse than the cause: a vacuum locked in one mode, one that ignores the handle completely, or one that behaves differently every time it is switched on, while the neck itself is mechanically sound. Replacing the switch on its own is considerably less work than replacing the support around it.

It sits in identifiable company on the diagram, and that is worth knowing before you order. SEBO catalogues the right-hand swivel neck support, 52018ER, as supplied complete with reed switch 52103 already installed, so that is the part to take if the support has cracked as well as the switch failing. The left-hand support is 52020ER and the entire swivel neck assembly is 52023ER. Directly either side of the switch on the sheet are position 116, the male contact holder 52199ER that carries wiring through the neck, and position 118, the 120V power supply and controller board 5870ER that interprets the signal. If a mode fault survives a new SEBO reed switch, those are the next two things to test.
