Item 172 on the ESSENTIAL G4/G5 drawing is the 3.9 x 25 pan head screw, supplied ten to a pack as 0104ER. The same fastener carries across the AUTOMATIC X uprights and the 300 and 350 MECHANICAL machines, so a pack seldom goes to waste on a service bench.

Twenty-five millimetres makes this the deep one in the 3.9 mm family. It belongs in the holes that stack two mouldings together, and dropping a shorter screw in there leaves only a few turns of thread engaged: tight enough to feel right on the day, not enough to stay that way. The DIN 7981 form cuts its own thread as it goes, so each fastener is at its best the first time it is driven and gradually less so afterwards. When a housing that has been opened repeatedly starts to creak or a corner lifts under hand pressure, a fresh set is usually the whole fix.

Length is worth confirming before the pack is opened. Measure the old screw from under the head to the point, since overall length including the head will read a couple of millimetres over and send you to the wrong number. Within the 3.9 mm gauge the three common sizes run 16, 19 and 25 mm, and only the last of those is this part.
