CleanMax, Simplicity and Riccar Soft Carpet Base Plate

This is the soft carpet base plate cataloged as part D220-1414, the plate that lifts the nozzle slightly so a lightweight upright glides over ultra soft plush carpet instead of sealing down against it. Riccar lists it against the SupraLite line, and dealers carry it for the Simplicity S10 and Riccar Prima bodies built on the same nozzle.

On carpet this soft, a plate meant for average pile can seal against the fibers so tightly that pushing the vacuum takes real effort, even though suction at the floor stays strong. Raising the plate breaks that seal deliberately. The plate then wears in service like any other, and a cracked or warped plate breaks the seal unevenly instead, so the nozzle skates on one side and pickup drops in patches even though nothing else on the machine has changed. Uneven wear along the plate edge is usually visible before the crack itself is, which is why the plate is worth a look whenever the machine goes up on its back for a belt or brush roll check.

Fitment is narrower than the family name suggests. Riccar states this plate fits the 10-Series SupraLite machines, the R10S and R10P among them, while excluding the R10E and the whole RSL line. If your machine is a CleanMax ZM series upright, check before ordering, because dealers list a separate base plate part number against those models even though the machines look closely related.

The safest check is physical rather than nominal. Pull the plate you have, measure it, and compare the mounting points against this one rather than going by the model badge alone.
