Product details

Notchy, noisy steering on an ESSENTIAL G upright usually means the bearing in the neck has worn out. Part 2825 is that bearing, shown at position 109 in SEBO's ESSENTIAL G4 G5 diagram as the right-hand swivel neck bearing, and it is the number used across the ESSENTIAL G1, ESSENTIAL G2, ESSENTIAL G4 and ESSENTIAL G5.

Its purpose is to let the neck rotate without the mouldings rubbing straight against one another. As the bore opens up, the pivot picks up friction and free play at the same time, so the handle feels stiff turning one way and sloppy coming back. Owners describe it as the machine no longer following where it is pointed, or as a creak from the base each time the handle is raised. A new bearing is a quick way to make an older G series feel tight in the hand again, and it is a job that needs no special tools once the neck is opened.

Do the left-hand side while you are in there. Bearing 5717 is the opposite-hand part and has done exactly the same work, and replacing one alone usually means going back in a few months later. The supports that hold the joint together are 2824 on the right and 5479 on the left; if either of those is cracked, a new bearing will not restore the steering on its own. Where the whole joint is past saving, the complete assemblies are 2823UL for the ESSENTIAL G1 and G2 and 20823UL for the ESSENTIAL G4 and G5.
