Product details
A sweep tee does two jobs a standard tee cannot do as cleanly: it joins a branch line into a main run, and it does so on a curved path rather than a sharp right angle. This one, listed for the Titan TCS4702 and TCS6602 central vacuum systems, uses that swept geometry specifically to keep the 90-degree branch from becoming a chokepoint.
A hard-angle tee forces debris to make an abrupt direction change right at the junction, exactly where two airstreams are already merging and airflow is already turbulent. Sweeping the turn gives debris a curve to follow instead of a corner to fight, so material entering from the branch line merges into the main run instead of piling up against the far wall of the fitting. That difference matters most on branch lines feeding inlets that are used often, where repeated passes of debris through a sharp tee eventually show up as a partial clog right at the junction.
Because a tee has three openings instead of two, it also needs more careful support than an inline fitting. The extra weight of a branch connection and the vibration from two merging airflows both put more strain on nearby strapping. Add a strap on the branch line close to the tee if one is not already planned there, rather than relying on the straps supporting the main run alone.
- Fits: Titan TCS4702, TCS6602
- Function: merges a branch line into a main run on a curved 90-degree path
- Connection: socket fit for standard 2-inch central vacuum pipe, solvent-cemented
- Best used: at branch junctions feeding frequently-used inlets, where a sharp tee would slow debris the most
Orient the sweep in the direction debris will actually travel through the branch before cementing. Installed backward, a sweep tee behaves worse than a plain sharp tee would have.
