Product details
Power to the Mighty Mite III's motor runs through a small on/off switch, and 28304A2 is the correct replacement when it fails. Eureka and Sanitaire list this same switch across several Mighty Mite III machines.
Wear announces itself before the switch quits outright. You start pressing harder to get a response, the machine flickers as you work, or it takes a couple of tries before it catches. None of that resolves on its own, and internal arcing inside a failing switch is worth dealing with sooner rather than later.
Unplug the machine first, and note how the leads are routed before disconnecting anything so the new switch goes back in the same orientation. Work on a bench in good light rather than on the floor, so nothing gets pinched when the housing closes back up.
A switch like this one is a single moving part: it either completes the circuit cleanly or it does not, so there is little to diagnose beyond how the switch feels and sounds under a normal press. If the machine will not respond at all, rather than just needing extra pressure, check the cord and the wall outlet first, since a dead switch and a dead outlet look identical from where you are standing with the plug in hand.
