The left-hand latch lock, part 36151021, is the latch that holds the housing closed on the Hoover SteamVac. It carries the clamping load on that side of the machine every time the unit is opened up and shut again.
When a latch hook cracks or its spring loses tension, the housing can shift or spring free while you clean, and what should stay inside the machine works its way out at the joint. A latch that no longer closes fully, or one you have to press twice to seat, is the usual warning sign before it fails outright.
