Spring pin that retains the end cap on Riccar and Simplicity brushrolls. It is the small roll pin driven through the agitator shaft to lock the cap in place, and it is what stops the assembly from walking apart as the roller spins.
These pins are usually sheared or bent during a bearing or brushroll service and thrown out with the old parts, then discovered missing at reassembly. Running the machine without one lets the cap creep off its shaft, which chews the bearing seat and can jam the roller mid-pass.
