When a handle stays bolt upright however firmly the release is pressed, the fault is almost always in the button rather than the latch behind it. Part 7082SW covers that button in black for the SEBO FELIX Premium, and SEBO lists it at item 25 of the FELIX exploded diagram.
The mechanism is simple enough to reason about. The button bears on the latch that holds the handle vertical, and it only has a few millimetres of travel to work with. Years of thumb pressure round off the contact face, and once even a fraction of that stroke is lost the latch never fully disengages. Later the moulding cracks where it takes the load, at which point the handle can also drop unbidden because nothing is holding the catch in a defined position. A new button hands back the whole stroke, so the handle drops and locks whenever it is asked to.
