The gray black slider carried under number 7035GS belongs to the SEBO DART and is drawn at item 30 of the DART parts sheet. Reading the sheet in order shows exactly what it belongs to: item 30 is this button, item 31 is the switch frame it runs in, and item 32 is the two-pole rocker switch underneath, carried as part 05138. The button is the visible cap of that stack. Slide it and it drives the rocker over; the frame keeps it square and holds the detent that makes a chosen position stay chosen.
Two things go wrong with it. Grit works into the track and the action turns coarse or seizes outright, or the moulded detent rounds off and the button will no longer stay where it is put, creeping under the vibration of a running motor. Neither stops the machine, but a control that drifts is a control changing the setting without being asked. Swapping the button restores a firm, repeatable action, and it is quick work once the handle panel is off.

Work out which of the three parts has actually failed before ordering, because from outside the handle they present much the same. A button that moves freely but changes nothing points at the rocker switch 05138. A button that will not move points at grit in the track or a snapped tab on the button itself. A button that moves but has lost its positive stop points at either the button or the white switch frame 7178WE. The printed film covering the face of the assembly is 7142 and is worth renewing in the same job, since it rarely survives being lifted once.
