One part number covers two jobs here, depending on which machine it goes into. On the AUTOMATIC X4, X4 Boost and X5 and on the ESSENTIAL G1, G2, G4 and G5, 5117/1 serves as the sensor pulley. On the 300 MECHANICAL and 350 MECHANICAL it is the motor pulley. On the AUTOMATIC X1 and X2 the same pulley is used in both positions, which is why a full rebuild on those two often calls for a pair.
A toothed belt only tracks as well as the pulleys it runs over, so teeth that have gone rounded or chipped will let the belt jump under load however new the belt is. The symptoms are a chirp or clatter that comes and goes with carpet resistance, a brush roller that slows when it meets a rug edge, and on the sensor side a machine that misreads how hard the roller is working. Inspect the pulley whenever a belt is being changed — replacing one without checking the other is how a repair ends up being done twice.
